Driftwood's Fall Calendar Now Runs Through One Ranch on RM 150

Driftwood has fewer places to stop this fall than it did a year ago, and more of its October through December calendar is happening at one address. A sotol distillery on Darden Hill Road closed in April. The winery on Elder Hill Road no longer has its bistro. Meanwhile Vista Brewing, on a 21-acre ranch at 13551 RM 150, now hosts a five-week pumpkin festival, a November music festival, holiday goat days and a workshop. All of them fall between now and mid-December.

For anyone planning a Saturday along FM 1826 and RM 150, the practical result is a shorter list of stops and a stronger pull toward one of them. Here is how that happened and what the calendar looks like as of October 4.

Two Stops That Are Quieter Than Last Fall

Desert Door Texas Sotol's distillery at 211 Darden Hill Road closed in late April 2026. Community Impact reported in June that the company had made no official statement about the closure, that events had been canceled, and that it was unclear whether the site would reopen. Desert Door's own website still lists Thursday through Sunday tasting room hours and a page for booking distillery tours. We found no report after June confirming that the site has reopened. Anyone thinking of taking guests there should confirm directly before making the drive.

A few miles away, Driftwood Estate Winery posted this on its homepage:

"We're sad to share that our longtime Bistro partners have closed their doors. We're so grateful for the many years of wonderful food and memories they brought to Driftwood Estate Winery, and we know they'll be missed by our guests ~ and by us, too."

The notice gives no closure date. The latest Bistro promotion we could find was a dinner advertised in mid-June 2026. The tasting room is still open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week. It now sells cheeses, cured meats, packaged charcuterie and crackers, and the winery says it is working to bring in local food trucks on weekends "whenever possible," with schedules posted as they are confirmed. No fall food truck dates had been published when we checked. For now, a visit to the winery is a wine-and-snacks stop, and a full meal means going somewhere else.

Taken together, those two changes remove a sit-down dinner and a distillery tour from the usual Driftwood loop. Those were two of the reasons a Saturday out here could fill an entire day.

Why the Pumpkin Patch Ended Up at a Brewery

The fall festival at Vista started for a separate reason, but it took on more weight once those closures happened. Karen and Kent Killough co-founded Vista Brewing in Driftwood in 2018. According to the Hays Free Press, they started the Driftwood Fall Festival in October 2025 to fill a gap. The Dripping Springs Pumpkin Festival had spent three years at the Pound House Historical Farmstead before moving to Uhland in 2024. The headline quote from the Killoughs was that they "wanted to kind of fill that void in the Dripping Springs, Driftwood area."

The first festival ran in fall 2025. This year is the second, and the festival's site describes it as a recurring event, "Open every Fall," and as part of "the Driftwood agri-hood." The setup is a boutique pumpkin patch with a corn pit, a haze maze, a hay mountain, mini golf, a chalk wall and photo areas, plus food and drinks from Vista. Live music plays Friday through Sunday on Vista's main stage, which is outside the festival area. Parking is free.

The 2026 run is listed as October 1 through November 1. The festival homepage now says it will open October 7 because of weather, so the first week of the advertised dates has already been dropped. Weekend tickets are sold through Vista's events page.

The Calendar as It Stands on October 4

Most of the public fall events we could confirm at Driftwood venues are on Vista's calendar. The winery's members-only party is the main exception.

  • October 7 to November 1: Driftwood Fall Festival at Vista Brewing, opening a week late because of weather.
  • Saturday, October 10: Succulent Pumpkin DIY Fall Centerpiece Workshop at Vista, pre-ticketed.
  • Sunday, November 1: Mini-goat event at Vista, on the festival's last day.
  • Saturday, November 7: The eighth annual Outside the City Limits Music Festival, noon to 8 p.m., at 13551 RM 150.
  • Sunday, November 22: Winter Wine Club Party at Driftwood Estate Winery, in two sessions, with live music by Rustic Avenues and food provided.
  • Sunday, November 29, and Sunday, December 13: Mini-goat events at Vista, with Santa at both.

We checked the official pages for The Salt Lick, Trattoria Lisina and nearby Camp Lucy and found no dated public events for October through December. That doesn't mean those places are quiet. It means their calendars are not where a Driftwood fall weekend is being organized this year.

The outdoor music festival in town this year happened in spring. Old Settler's Music Festival returned to Camp Ben McCulloch at 18301 RM 1826 for its April 17 to 19 edition after recent years in Dale. That puts both of Driftwood's large outdoor music weekends of 2026 on RM 1826 and RM 150, roughly six months apart.

The Places That Kept Their Hours

While newer stops have come and gone, Driftwood's two best-known restaurants are still running on their usual posted schedules. Those hours matter more now that the winery serves no meals.

Place Address Posted hours
The Salt Lick 18300 FM 1826 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday
Trattoria Lisina 13308 FM 150 West, on the Mandola Estate Closed Monday; 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
Driftwood Estate Winery tasting room Elder Hill Road area 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, snacks only

The weekday hours limit how a day can be planned. Trattoria Lisina doesn't open until 4 p.m. on weekdays, so a weekday lunch in Driftwood mostly means The Salt Lick. On weekends, both restaurants open at 11 a.m. Since the winery tasting room closes at 6 p.m., a late-afternoon tasting followed by dinner at either restaurant still works on any day but Monday.

What Won't Change Before Thanksgiving

Anyone hoping for an easier drive this season will have to wait. Hays County's project page for the RM 150 and RM 12 intersection now schedules construction of a two-lane roundabout for mid-2027 through mid-2028, at an estimated cost of $5 million in county money. Design and final plans run from late 2025 to late 2026, with utility relocation set for late 2026. Community Impact's November 2025 road roundup had expected that project to be finished in late 2026. The county's schedule is the more current one, so the intersection will look the same through the holidays.

Phase 2 of the Darden Hill and CR 162 project, the same road Desert Door sits on, will be a 1.7-mile, four-lane divided road from the Sawyer Ranch roundabout to RM 1826. As of that November 2025 report it was expected to be finished in summer 2027. A separate 1.7-mile extension of Darden Hill to RM 150 had no timeline. TxDOT finished a feasibility study of RM 1826 in 2024, but the next phase has no start date, so no construction is scheduled there.

One more item to keep an eye on. A Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation architectural barriers project record for a Driftwood Store project at 14999 FM 150 lists an estimated $8.5 million build with a bar, a restaurant addition and parking. It shows an estimated completion date of October 15, 2026, and no assigned tenant. A filing is not an opening, and nothing we found confirms who will run it or when it will serve its first customer.

Until then, a fall day in Driftwood has three anchors: barbecue on FM 1826, Italian food on FM 150 West, and the pumpkin patch and stage at Vista on RM 150. Pumpkin season there ends November 1.

If you're weighing how these changes along FM 1826 and RM 150 affect a home you own or one you're considering in Driftwood, Newton Residential Group follows these projects closely and is glad to talk through what is actually scheduled. Contact Us.
